As an addendum to the sets of the third wave from 1985, LEGO released another 3 stand alone Trains sets in 1986. These were the last sets for of the grey era, and this Shell tanker wagon is one of them.
A-Model
After a gap of three years, a new Shell tanker wagon was released in 1986. Compared to its predecessor 7816, it looks very much modernized and less bulky. It has some interesting details like a fuel nozzle, which increases playability.
LEGO's partnership with Shell started in 1966, and until the introduction of the fictional gasoline company Octan in 1992, Shell was the common gasoline brand featured in LEGO sets. This set is the last of 3 LEGO Trains sets from the 1980s to feature the Shell brand. In 1980, LEGO released Shell tanker wagon 7816, and train set 7735 from 1985 came with a Shell wagon.
This set was available from 1986 until the end of the grey era in 1990.
B-Model
The B-model represents a flatbed wagon carrying 4 fuel cans.
